Kington sunshine walks May 2022

My first visitors of May. Mari, Rodger and Jim.
We had a very jolly time and the sunshine walks lived up to their name.
The month started for me though with the Kington
'Made in the Marches' open studios and of course I had to go to see
Jeremy in action making clogs and I also treated myself to a very nice hand knitted sweater, a handwoven cushion and a slipware plate.

Jeremy Atkinson: clogmaker to the stars!

a very nice hand knitted sweater ... badly modelled and dusty clogs.

Jeremy tells me that most of his business is done online or you could come and stay with me while he fits you up with a nice pair of clogs! I wear mine every day.

Then an obligatory trip to the
museum The case contains labels for all the products on sale in the chemist's shop.

sewng assessories and needlework samplers./h4>

Then I marched them down the old tramway for a photostop at the Old Foundry, now small units, sculpures

Richard Plaisants antiques and furniture restoration.

Then home for Vegetarian lasagne

Morning coffee under the watchful beak of beaky

Not much sign of beans on those poles ... but yes you do have a sweater!

The parting of the ways, but which way to go? Well of courseI said 'UP'

But wiser counsils prevailed and we went [correctly] down.

Bluebells and red rhodos, floating mysteriously.

Jim communes with the bluebells.

The little town of Kington, how still we see thee lie

The symbol for Kington Town is this pictograph of the three pine trees. The pines were planted as waymarkers for the drovers with their cattle, sheep and geese as they headed on their way to Hereford and ultimately, London. The pines could be seen for miles. Unfortunately, they were all blown down in a gale. They were replaced by monkey puzzle trees and that is what we see today. Not three but more with a good reserve!

The monkey puzzles.

Not three but more with a good reserve!

The whetstone

A glacial remainder, probably not used as a whetstone despite its name

Speeding up with thoughts of 'beer'

We got there eartly and displaced the locals from their favourite seats in the window!

Next morning it is market day

The old cinema

Ghost mail, the solution when you don't have a permanent address.

Home for lunch, in the shade!

Trying a different route for my standard walk: past the primary school on Mill Street

Through the snicket

and May be out!

Reaching the churchyard.

Check out Philip, my inspirational gardener.

We have bluebells too!

My goal for to-day, Crooked Well

Crooked Well 1860s

Enquired as to where the well was to be found ...

... and was directed across the bypass

The old pumping station

Modern pumping station supplying the
golf course.

Delphiniums in my garden are much beloved of slugs. This one prospers in adversity.
